When I first started to live the recovery-based lifestyle one of the first things I tackled was my diet. Several years ago I was hospitalized for several weeks due to gallbladder issues and had it removed. The doctor told me that my liver was in bad shape and diagnosed me with fatty liver disease.
The fatty liver disease diagnosis was not necessarily from drinking, drugs and partying, but it was taking things like ibuprofen and pseudoephedrine continually. I took these things because I often felt terrible. My body was under constant attack from inflammation by the things I put into it. Many of these things are food and medicines we think are normal but in reality are toxic to your health.
The first month was a little rough adjusting and learning how to nourish my body. After a few months, it felt like I had new life flowing through my veins. I feel like I am on fire each day because of how I eat.
I have gotten to the point where things that are not good for me are simply not a consideration. I eat a nutritious diet, so my body is not craving the quick fixes like sugars and simple carbs. I have reprogrammed how my brain perceives food.
There is an emotional connection that can develop from foods. Food can create feelings, just like a drug. Have you ever noticed this? Taking an inventory to determine how food makes you feel is important. Many that I have coached have strong emotional responses to foods. They are passionate about the smells, spices, and tastes.
Food can make you feel good, and we require food to live. It can be easy to confuse nourishment with changing the way you feel. Food is an acceptable high today, and care must be taken ensure optimal health.
One of the first ways to change your emotions is to work on focus and utilizing techniques to change the ways we think about food.
If you suffer from low energy, poor performance or health concerns, it is time to make this a priority to change. When coaching others, diet is an interest many seek me out initially. We then peel back the underlying cause.
I based this diet on the Bulletproof Diet. The Bulletproof Diet a paleo type diet which goal is to reduce inflammation in the body. One of the other benefits is rapid weight loss. I dislike the word diet, but this has been my diet for a number of years.
It took me years to figure out my water. Today I refuse to drink tap water due to chlorine and fluoride used to treat the water. I will not even drink the water from plastic any longer. Unless I am in a bind, I stick to glass containers.
Mineral water contains many minerals, but I have dialed in my magnesium intake. When I drink a Topo Chico or a Pellegrino, my mind turns on. It took me years to figure this out and wow!!! It is the closest thing I have found to a natural high.
I wish I could explain how powerful this is, the potential that one can reach is unbelievable.
My morning routine starts with Bulletproof Coffee. I drink 40 ounces of coffee and use a quarter pound of butter each morning. The coffee helps your body get into ketosis, which is your body burning fat instead of carbs or sugars. Humans are naturally inclined to burn fat versus sugars and carbs. By eating a diet high in healthy fats helps fat fall from your body, while having nearly unlimited energy.
Making coffee takes me a total of about 15 minutes.
After eating lunch is when I turn on my day. Before changing my diet, I would crash right after lunch. Today this is rare. My lunch consists of cold-smoked Wild Sockeye Salmon, a whole avocado, and organic green leaf lettuce.
My lunch takes me 3 minutes to make and have traveled with it on airplanes.
Grass-fed steak is the core of my dinner. I will add sweet potatoes a few times a week and depends on my activity level. I don’t do a lot of vegetables but will eat asparagus, carrots or brussel sprouts on a regular basis. The only seasoning I use is Himalayan Pink Sea Salt and grass-fed butter.
When I am traveling, I will buy fresh cuts of grass-fed steak and eat it raw. If I need the carbs, I will eat the sweet potatoes raw as well. I slice the sweet potatoes and butter into bite-sized goodness.
My dinner can take ask little as 15 minutes to cook. Traveling can be difficult and will buy a fresh piece of grass-fed steak and eat it raw.
I eat blueberries right before bed as a sleep hack and are great for your brain. I usually try to eat fresh but, they can be expensive and hard to find during the off-season.
While bio-hacking my glucose levels with a glucose meter. I found that I slept better when my levels were a little higher. Snacking on berries has a similar effect to taking honey before bed.
Now by incorporating simple exercises you can create the body want without too much effort.
My workout routine takes less an hour per month.
