I am sitting here on an airplane after a 30-minute meditation while traveling to Washington DC for my coaching business. I am very excited about this trip and will have to write later about the dream-like circumstances that brought me to here.
Before boarding, I saw my ex’s attorney waiting to board the same plane. I will save the legal drama for another time, but in short, my phone blew up with unwanted voice and text messages from my ex.
For whatever reason they are interested in where I am going. I want to be left alone to work on my business while I provide for my family. My mind wants to start playing the different scenarios out and planning a well thought out response.
I had to make the conscious decision to rid my mind of this nonsense. I was not going to do anything, not even think about it. I was going to create space between my thoughts.
The day after I found out my wife had an affair and the worst day of my life I was on an airplane just like I am today. Flying to the same city. Talk about coming full circle. I can say that I was processing a lot with the added stress of travel and dramas.
During my travels, I see many people escaping on airplanes. It seems to be a place of not being able to sit still or an experience riddled with anxiety for many. Perhaps you can relate to this?
I see many passed out from sedatives, people who require a few drinks or zoned out to the world with games, just to get through the stillness. In our society, there are so many socially acceptable ways to self-medicate.
Right after my wife’s affair I was traveling a good deal. I don’t know how many times I cried while sitting right next to someone. I had to learn to sit there with horrible thoughts and feelings.
Feelings of being broken hearted, feelings of wanting the plane to crash, feelings with wanting to jump out of the aircraft, the feelings of wanting to fly to a new world and escape coming home to a horrible relationship I wanted to fix, but couldn’t.
It was painful torture in many ways. I had to find answers because I had learned to stop using things to change the way I felt. I stopped using people, places and things to change the way I felt. I had to sit on these planes for many hours per week and just feel.
Our thoughts create our reality and by managing your thoughts, you can bend your reality. I could have let the run-in with her attorney or get caught up in the drama and start my trip off on the wrong foot.
The reality I am creating is about my business and serving others through my coaching. I can focus my thoughts on the negative circumstances and let them manifest in other negative ways. As an alternative, I can choose to focus my thoughts on what I want to create and live my infinite potential.
I was fortunate in being able to learn how to process the worst feelings and thoughts on airplanes so the skills I have developed to quiet my mind and create the mind-bending reality of my blessed life.
Travel brings new experiences even in business travel if you are open to it. Learning to be open to experience new things and feeling your way through it as you process it on airplanes has brought me a great deal of growth. With these techniques, I have never gone on a business trip that didn’t provide a powerful shift in perspective.
Taking a full hour of meditation can bring powerful shifts to the way your brain works. What else are you going to do for several hours while you sit there? You can numb your mind, or you can dig deep and get intimate with your mind, your breath and who you want to become.
I like to perform these techniques going into my destinate to help set the outcome for my trip as well as on the way back to help either process or implement new insights.
Learning to quiet the mind and become one with yourself will nullify the need to numb your mind with things outside of yourself. Getting rid of the thinking, the pains, the fear will bring clarity to your hearts true desire.
Setting an intention for a trip while you’re in transit is a potent way to create the life you want. Deliberately setting an intention prior creates an energy that will often produce results.
Visualizing your intention with a quiet mind is an unstoppable force of the universe to create anything you want and keep you well on your way to living your infinite potential.
Visualizing your intention is similar to meditating, but the goal is to start with a quiet mind and to create a dream as you layer the events and feelings that create your desired outcomes.
I like to connect with people on flights whenever I can and generally try to connect wherever I go, but when I can go deep within myself I will take the opportunity to do so.
Traveling helped me find my true purpose in my life and was a major part of my recovery and healing process. Today I am blessed to be able to coach, write and hopefully inspire so that we can all live closer to our God-given purpose in life.
